Reliable 400hp?
Nowadays you can get a pretty nice B6 S4 6MT with less than 40,000 miles for around 23-25k. Add 10k for the S/C, then a 1k for clutch and other little add ons and you have a factory-like, super-smooth lagless V8 with almost 500hp for around $35k. Not to say its got all the little S4 ammenities as well. This might be a better DD route for me than a BAT 1.8t since the S4 is a better DD, plus reliable.

not quite as reliable obviously but definitely a lot quicker!
Wait, wait. Your looking at spending 35k on a car, when you could seriously just buy a 1999.5 a4 for probably 6k. Spend 10k tops on engine work, suspension clutch, whatever, and easily still make 500 hp at the wheels. So your at 16k and you've still got 14 left over... Go put a down payment on a house or something lol...

Well of course that was from personal opinion. I have seen several 2.0 strokers with upgraded tranny's, 35r's, etc etc than can't even break into the 12's. Some do but for the amount of effort, $$$ and downtime, its disappointing. Wether its reaction time, fueling, launch or w/e, I don't want to spend $25k on an A4 that still clocks 13's and isn't fully finished at all. $35k spent on a totally done DD super-sedan is worth the money. All I'd do to a B6 S4 would be 19" HRE's, Charactre roof spoiler, tint windows and suspension besides the S/C, headers, exhaust and clutch. And that car will look and feel fresh out the factory, not rattly or half assed like MOST B5's. I got an RB oversea's and a sil-forty shell sitting in a barn that I've been procrastinating because I wanted a 2.0 B6, so I finally decided that its easier to go on a fully built RB engine made to handle ~800hp and not worry bout it breaking down as a daily. Since VF released the S/C I'm gonna wait til some are on the road and all the bugs are perfected and then I'll jump on it. The only true thing is that the B5 will be more fuel efficient and less insurance, but for the comforts of the S4, it's worth it. Nevertheless... Audi for life, street or track
Your car is going to be half assed only if you do it that way. Are you going to be racing it anyway. If you get an a4 and drop a gt35r into it its going to be crazy fast any way you look at it. But if you want to go drop 35 grand on something that you just drive around than go ahead. But im pretty sure if i had that money id get an evo or an sti, thats just my opinion though.
