Removing Cats?

Hey i tried searching and couldn't really find anything but i live in a county with no emissions and wanna remove my cats and just put a straight pipe in. and was wondering if it will make my car run worse due to the c02 censors and stuff. Also how much louder will it be?

dragonrage 11-18-2009 02:50 PM

It won't run worse, it won't sound notably louder (a bit, however), and it will smell bad and make people want to hurt you. It will save you a few horsepower and a small amount of weight and be totally not worth it.

Andrew149 11-18-2009 02:57 PM

i do it anyways =] more hp bby!

collins 11-18-2009 03:42 PM

are you talking about putting in a test pipe? it will add around 10-15hp and like 30-40lbs torque. helps your turbo spool up a little faster as well. youll probably have to do anti fouler mod to it so you dont get a cel too.

dragonrage 11-18-2009 04:14 PM

30-40 torque? LOL

ROFL

No.

a4nick 11-18-2009 05:31 PM

Well I'm pretty sure my cat is already gone bad and I'm not gonna pay for anew one I would rather just leave it out. I know it gives a little hp and torque but I'm worried about it throwing a constant cel. What's the anti fouled mod all about

ghost6303 11-18-2009 05:51 PM

you said cats, as in you have a 2.8?

"This stainless and mandrel bent 3" racing downpipe replaces the restrictive catalytic converter located behind the turbo on longitudinally mounted 1.8T engines. The downpipe has a large 3" opening to increase turbo efficiency and is surprisingly silent when used with the stock exhaust system in place. Expect spool-up to arrive 200 to 400 rpm earlier, and at least 40ft/lb of torque to the wheels!!

Typical horsepower gains range from 10hp+ with a stock turbo, 15hp+ with a K04, and 30-40 horsepower when combined with a GT28RS or larger turbo. Includes provisions for factory oxygen sensors. --For OFF-ROAD use only! ;)"

anti fouler mod - http://www.audizine.com/forum/showthread.php?t=303801

its true, the difference between a stock car with a chip and the same car with a test pipe is about 35ft lb of torque and a little quicker spool.

My next mod!

Just get a set of non foulers part 42009, they will come up as spark plug non-foulers, but fit perfect. Thats what i used. grinded one down with a dremel (or drill) and stacked the 2 together. No cel yet!
I LOVE my test pipe. The sound is great and it added a noticeable little punch. Smell really isnt THAT bad. and its a hella lot cheaper than the labree. Id say go for it unless you have emissions testing.

Thats where i always look first. Got my brand new balieys dv for $25 off, and my test pipe used for $85. Also looking at a gently used carbonio for only $200

This is NOT going to give you much with a stock or near stock setup. Yes, it's a bit of a restriction. But it doesn't really show itself until you start improving other things. I doubt it'd give you 30 even with the GT28RS. Maybe 20-25 I'd guess. But, still, not much at stock.
