Default Repair Bill

Hi everyone, just got back from ordering parts and everything i was wondering if this is a good price, seems like it is but i wanted to make sure that i'm getting a good deal. The mechanic is going to change all these parts (my cost 850) and charge 950 in labour.

PCV Valve
Vacuum Valve Check Valve
Over Run Cut Off Valve
Pentosin Oil
Oil Filler Cap
Oil FIlter
Oil Pan Gasket
Oil Filter stand Gasket
Oil Pump
Tensioner Gasket (camshaft)
Timing Chain Tensinoner (camshaft)
Timing Chain
Camshaft Seals
Intake Manifold Gasket
Exhaust Manifold Gasket
Turbo Exhaust Gasket (Cat Conveter inlet)
Turbo Exhaust Gasket (manifold)
Cylinder Head Gasket Set w/Valve Cover
Water flange
Air Condition Tensioner
Timing Belt
Timing Belt Tensioner Dampener

Basically he said your doing 80% of an engine rebuild just missing intake exhaust valves, and actual cylinders.

He also asked if wanted to change my piston rings wondering if that is worth it, they run about 200 dollars more for all 4?

Seems fair. Is your engine a victom of sludge and a broken timing belt? You shouldnt need rings, a compression test would confirm that... But, even if you have a lot of miles they should be fine.

No sludge, engine is actually really clean. Im having gaskets and seals go on me frequently so changed the whole pcv system now. But the head gasket was gone, rear main seal was gone, valve cover was gone. And the timing chain tensioner was ticking pretty bad so decided to get it out of the way. The rings i dont know if they need to be changed mechanic is a "buddy" said if you want to buy them and he will change them for free hes got everything apart anyways doesn't mind do the extra work. He said would be better compression, but i dont know if there is a problem with compression. Thats why i was wondering if its worth it or not, if anyone has any experience

Bad head gaskets don't really happen on 1.8t's unless the engine was over heated badly. How do you know the head gasket is "gone"? You shouldn't need rings.
