Default Rev Limiting at 4500RPM

Hello,

My car is limiting reving at 4500 RPM, that´s too low! What could that be? It cuts injection exactly at 4500RPM.

I´ve noticed, also, my idle is around 500 RPM (too low, I think), and oscillates a lot! ig goes down to 300 and up to 900. When AC is on, it does not oscillates and stays at 600rpm.

What could that be? It´s a A4 95 1.8L 20v ADR (non turbo)

You really need a VAG-COM to diagnose this, but right away both ends or your problem make me suspect engine speed sensor. But get some VAG-COM codes before you throw money at this on a guess from some guy on a forum.

I do need a VAG-COM diagnose asap... I have no VAG COM, I´ll look for one before throwing money on anything.

I bought this for $71, then activated VCDS-lite for another $99. Or for just about the price of one trip to the dealer to get some codes read.

I have no way of knowing. It's the right plug, but you need the right circuitry in there. Also don't know the software it runs. You really want Ross-tech's VCDS (VAG-COM)
software. You will save tons of money when you can reset codes, get real time data, etc.

Just for the record I have no clue why you paid $71 for one, I got mine on eBay for $9 and it works fine

Does it sound like it's at 4500 rpm when it cuts? Does it feel like a 500 rpm idle? I'm asking this because you mentioned 300 rpm and that's so low it would stall within a few seconds of running.

it sounds and feels like 300 rpm, the car almost stalls then it rev it up to 900, then goes down again.

and it really feels like 4500rpm cut. I´m about to buy a vag com cable, as soon as I have more news I´ll post it here.

is it possible that the car is working in "safe mode"?

the car got better by itself. no more staling when idle. I think it was old gas in the tank, tha car was not being used for sometime.

but the idle stills around 500-600 rpm, and rev limiting around 4000rpm. is it possible that the RPM counter is counting "half" of real rpm? is the only logic thing.
