How much wider? Offset? Size? Are you lowered?

i did a search after i posted and figured that would be asked. i have the care at the tire place now so i will have to try and figure that out after i get the car back.
he said they didnt fit because they were hitting the control arms. i got them off criagslist, they are audi rims and he told me they came off a 2010. they are wider they what i have now witch are not the factory rims. i bought the car with those on it. i will try to get more info and report back.

The wheel specs should be cast/stamped into the inside of the wheel. If you have the wheels with you, just look on the back side of the spokes.

Tire size could also be a problem...

I know that for newer cars, Audi has moved to more aggressive offsets. That right there is prolly gonna give you problems. They're also designed to have wheels with a larger final diameter, so you might need to run tires with less sidewall to make them fit.

Like bshusted said, see if you can get some more specs on the wheels and then we'll be able to help you out with tire width and aspect ratio, spacers, and whatever else you might need to get them to fit.

looks like a 17" x 8" ET48 wheel.
ET48 might be the issue, i believe that puts the rim of the wheel pretty far in to the wheelwell from the hub. You are rubbing the arms on the rear end most likely. You'll need spacers to push the wheels out.

So the wheels are 17x8 with an offset of +48.

With this high of an offset, you loose 16mm of clearance on the inside when compared to the stock 16s.

You can use spacers to correct the offset of the wheels. At a minimum I would use 20mm just to get them away from the control arms.

Of course using spacers presents an added cost for the spacers and then longer lug bolts to accommodate. You may want to evaluate if these are really the wheels for you or if they were just convenient.
