Default RMP is Racing up but car not going anywhere

I have an 2001 A4 2.8 Quattro.

I will give you the full story of what I did.

I just change the spark plug to NGK Iridium Ix Spark Plug (BKR6EIX),
I also did an Oil change with Mobile 1 Oil.

I cleaned the engine I took off the engine cover and sprayed some engine clean, let it sit for about 20 min sprayed some water to wash it down. Let the car sit overnight, drove it the next afternoon.

I notice after about 20 miles driving I stop at a stop sign when I went to step on the accelerator the RMP will race up and the car doesn't move then the car will jerk and take off. If I slow down then step on the accelerator the car will do the same thing. Do anyone know why the car is doing this. What can I do to fix this problem.

Hope someone can help me.

Thanks,

I assume it's an automatic? If so, it's the torque converter that serves as a "clutch" at a stop sign. But that's all sealed up and no way water got in there. I wonder if that tranny range switch got wet and it's not going into gear right.

Could also just be misfiring. Leave the hood open in the sun for awhile and drive it some more, or get the codes pulled.

Yes it is an automatic. It does seem like its not going into gear correctly because when I slow down in traffic and give it a little gas you can feel the car jerk into gear. What can be do to fix this?

If we stay on the theory it has something to do with washing the motor, I think you need to VAG-COM that and see what the tranny module is saying. The CEL is pretty much about pollution stuff, you need VAG codes to find out what the tranny module is telling you.

We all call it VAG-COM but the name has changed to VCDS. Read about it here. you can download the software from there, and get an interface on ebay. If it's just the shareware version that's not activated, all you can do is read codes. You can't clear them or do much of anything else.

Be careful you get the right interface for a B5. And the software is PC only.
