What's wrong with your MAF that you don't want to run without it? It's going to run rich...no bueno

Since you are a 2001 it wont be as bad running without a Maf, but it will throw off how much adv timing the ecu runs since the ecu is used to tell the ecu how much load there is. The ecu also use the maf to figure out how much fuel to use, but since you are a 2001 it mainly uses the 02 sensor.

You'll still get terrible gas mileage until the engine heats up and it goes into closed loop though.

Not like it is going to take 30 minutes and 30 miles of driving to get the coolant up to temp. lol

Well guys, all I can say is I must have a problem with my MAF, the car is fast, idles smoother, runs better and the mileage is even better with the MAF. I just drove the crap out of it. So I'm going to wait to for it cool off, plug my MAF back in and if it runs like crap again, then I guess I need a new one.

Thats the old rule of thumb, if it runs better with it un plugged, the computer has gotten used to operating without it. It was relying on the O2 sensors like mike said.

Friend of mine who sold his Audi a few years back still has brand new in box Maf sensor in his closet, going to try it later tonight. Part numbers match.

Is there any real difference between the cheap MAF's on ebay and one from say ecstuning?
