S4 shocks on A4 2.8Q w/ Stock Sport Suspension?
I'm looking to put the stock sport suspension on my non-sport suspension 2001 A4 2.8Q. I've been able to find sport suspension springs (from a 1.8TQ -- I believe they're equivalent to the 2.8Q). But I'm having a hard time finding stock sport suspension shocks with low miles (or at all). I am seeing several S4 shocks with low miles. So I'm wondering if I can use the S4 shocks with stock sport A4 springs? Or will the over damping be an issue?
I'm not looking to spend $800+ on Koni's or Bilts. Plus, my wife drives the car quite a bit. So anything rough/stiff is a no-go.
Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Matt

You need to search better, there are many complete threads on this subject in several of the forums. I've posted detailed information several times including pictures.
1.8 and 2.8 are not interchangeable at all. The S4 spring/struts will work on a quattro 2.8, lower it about 1" in the rear and 3/4" in the front because the s4 is heavier in the front. The ride quality is excellent, not as stiff as aftermarket springs but sportier than stock. If you search there is a lot of S4 suspension for sale for $100-200 range.

There's some valuable experience here: http://www.audifreaks.com/forums/showthread.php?t=741
discussing putting S4 shocks and springs on a A4 2.8Q. But he also notes that the S4 is heavier in front than the A4 2.8Q (it's ~350 lb heavier in fact) and thus is not ideal. He also notes that matching the shock valving to the spring rate is pretty important.
I also spoke with an Audi tuner in socal and he regarded the springs and shocks between the A4 1.8TQ and A4 2.8Q roughly the same. Given the ~150 lb difference, this seemed more intuitive. But I'm not sure what to believe now.
It seems like I might need to just ask a dealership for the part #s and talk to a mechanic there. I'm hoping that the S4 shocks are valved the same as the A4 sport shocks on the 2.8Q, because I can pick them up for less. But I'm starting to fear that this is not the case.
Thanks for the info.
