said and egr delete worth it?
I was thinking about chipping my audi. I was going to go with the stage 2 Apr chip. I have straight pipe exhaust with 3" down pipe also aftermarket cold air intake With manual boost controller. is there a better chip out there or is Apr the best choice.
There's no EGR on these motors, what you think is an EGR valve is for the SAI. The only reason to get rid of it is simply to remove a potential failure point. SAI only comes on for a few seconds on cold start to help warm up the cat faster, doesn't affect anything after that.
Everyone will have a different opinion on which chip to use, but:
I researched for at least 2 months straight on which chip to get. I was flamed in so many threads on every audi forum on the internet, but finally made the decision to go with APR. I put at least 5 or 6 calls into Revo, APR and GIAC and I felt like APR both cared about my car and knew what they were talking about.
I drilled the reps with 1,000 different questions, and ultimately APR never budged on their answers, never bs'd me and didn't hurry to get me off the phone (it was almost 6pm EST one time too).
I went to the local APR.. the first time they didn't have the chip in stock (I need mine soldered onto the ECU- ATW engine)
The second time they couldn't get their computer to work with the programmer (I called APR and they put me on the phone with the rep that was helping the shop. He assured me this wasn't something they could've prevented.
Third time everything was perfect, but I felt like there was a leak or something- couldn't quite put my finger on it. I called APR and the guy walked me through checking some things. Turned out to be the stock 710 DV. Swapped it for a 710N and reset the computer. After a couple miles for the ECU to learn the car is amazing and worth every (albeit more than others) penny.

I paid ~$650 to have the 93 octane stage 1 installed. The chip had to be soldered so it took extra time. I was watching the guy so I'm pretty well pleased with the price, given what he had to go through. If I would've mailed it in I would have to pay shipping both ways and rent a car, take out the ECU myself, etc so it was worth it.
People say the GIAC chip is 'more aggressive' than APR but there hasn't been a sidexside video done.. I don't think my APR tune is "aggressive" but rather a nice upgrade to a smooth daily driver.
SOULSTEP,
If you record a video of you doing 0-80mph I'll edit my APR chip doing the same, to see side by side comparison..

I might just do that. My car is in the shop getting some body work done, and the roads are all icy up here in Canada. But maybe when I get it back I'll head out to the highway and see what she can do. (Btw, mine is a 93 octane stage 1 as well, though I only run 91 octane. Bought the chip used).
