scary question....
ok, i bought my 00 a4 1.8tqm last spring with 98k on it... i kinda bought it on a whim because it was a really good deal for a really nice car. (didnt know anything about audis when i bought it) however i bought it from a reallllly shady dealership north of the twin cities that knew nothing about the car, only that it was traded in there from a mid 30's lady who they said owned it from 30k till when i bought it.
i was nieve to asking before i bought the car if it had the timing belt replaced , and have been driving daily ever since then without a single problem with anything (i dont regret the purchase for any reason, love it) but now that the car has just tipped 104k i am REALLY wooried that the lady might not have gotten it changed... is there any way to find know if it has been replaced yet or not?
I recently got a borla exhaust system put on from someone where i live and he is very knowledgeable about audis and he checked my belt for me quickly when i was there and said that there are no cracks that he could tell...
i also called the dealership and they know nothing and cant really tell me anythign about the car they said so im thinking im SOL
WHAT SHOULD I DO? i have never had a problem but i dont want to make the decision after its too late

Is there any chance to get in touch with the woman the dealership bought it from??
This might sound stupid but some shops put a sticker somewhere under the hood, that states when it was changed. Mine doesn't have one but I've seen it before, while I was looking for used Audis.
Other than that, I can only recommend to change the belt, too... and since it's a big job, change thermostat and water pump as well. If it hasn't been replaced in the recent years.

you can have audi check their central data base using the cars vin number. they can tell then tell you everything that and audi dealership has done on the car. anyways you should probably have the belt changed at 145k or 150k for a second time regardless of if it has been done before.

actually if you go into any Audi dealership to their service department they should be able to do the search for you. The only reason why i know this is because i had them do this for my car because of some rust issues that they say are not covered under warranty because my car was "painted".
