Shift knob
I was wondering if that rubber stop could be removed from the shifter? I have a shift **** that I've been wanting to put on, but there's a problem because its the one with the set screws. I can't set the threaded screw cover ring low enough in order to get to the screws. I could put it on without the ring, but it would look kind of ugly.
Have you tried getting at it? Or do you just know that it's there? Cuz I had to remove it to install my short shifter and it just slid right off for me with next to no effort at all. If I remember right, it serves a good function though, so you might not want to completely remove it. As I recall, it is what the plastic riser rests on. Without it, the boot would sink down the whole rod, so you might be better off just cutting off a quarter inch or so of the riser so the boot sits a little lower, but keeps the rubber stop there to keep if from falling all the way down.
It sits on top of the spring assembly that slides up and down for your push-down reverse lock. You can try to remove it if you like i don't know if it would hurt anything, the sleeve would just sit on top of the spring assembly, but the combination of that little ring and the plastic sleeve on the shift boot are just to keep the boot from sliding up and down on the shaft (:chuckles:

When I put my alcantara shift boot on, I removed the stop that was on the boot. The alcantara boot didn't have one. The shift lever is threaded at the top and then widens out. I used four small zip ties to make a box and tightened them down so they sat where I wanted them on the tapered section and then put the **** back on and it sits just right. You might be able to do something like that to position the boot where you want it so it fills the gap where the ring sat.
O.k., I need some help here. I cant get that damn rubber piece off! I pulled and twisted it from all sides for like a half hour today (by hand and using pliers) , and all it did was move up about 1/4". I can see how there is a spring fused inside it and I think that's what's keeping it from moving. Am I going to have to cut this thing off then? I really don't like that idea, but this starting to frustrate me already lol. Thanks.
I'll try to take some tomorrow. Believe me, this thing is on there like it was never meant to come off.
