Default short shifter clarification

real quick.....

AUDI A4 96-03 S4 00 01 RACING SHORT THROW SHIFTER KIT | eBay

is this the famous b&m knock off short shifter we have all come to enjoy? I am trying to clean up gearbox slop, figure ill drop this in and replace transmission mounts. Just want to make sure this is widely accepted shifter.

Also, what about this push down for reverse crap... i thought that was for pre facelift b5s. Someone clarify?

I read you can just use the b&m instructions. Is is difficult?

Yep thats the knock-off. I ran one on my 97 for 2 years and have had one in my avant for over a year now with zero issues. Only problem I had came from me not using thread locker on the right bolts lol. It won't be as crisp as the JHM solid bushing/shifter combo, but its also not $250

They sell a version for facelift that doesn't have the push-reverse design.

So the one above would work with or without a push-reverse shifter? I have to push down to get into reverse on my 99 and id like to buy one of these

The ones I bought were configurable for either case. Push down reverse required you to add a pin and a spring and some other weird ****, and by leaving that stuff out it allowed you to use the same shifter for non-push down reverse.

Just needed to make sure, I'm going to order this and install it probably next weekend.

Between this and new transmission mounts, shifting should be significantly easier.... Lately first and second gear have been a ************

Thanks for the clarification!!

Could also be your synchros on their way out. For the sake of your car and your wallet I hope this is not the case.

dont put that thought in my head - there is 0 slop when the car is stationary. So i am guessing its the mounts.

i am hoping its the mount
