Default Should I put new engine in 2000 A4?

Hi,

My A4 has 145,000 miles and the engine seized while on the Interstate this weekend. Part of the fault was my own stupidity. I kept getting the oil warning beep and light, and I kept stopping to check the oil, but it was all ok.

Except for the fact that the oil was apparently not getting to the engine....

Anyway, after all kinds of fun being stuck on a busy Interstate, the tow truck, the closed auto places, and being in the middle of nowhere, I now have a decision to make.

The guys at the local auto place - very nice, but who know very little about Audis - tell me that the engine is shot and that I need a new one. Does it make sense to put a new engine in a 2000 A4? I loved the car, but... what the heck does a new engine cost? Does it make more sense to just put that towards a new car?

Thanks for any help/suggestions.

Nick

There are long blocks out there under $1k. Finding an ATW motor is a bit of a pain since it's a single year.

rockauto.com, germanautoparts.com, and car-part.com typically have decent deals.

As to whether or not it's worth the cost is up to you. You will definately was to shop around for the motor and place to do it.
