When I started my car today, there was a loud, high-pitched sound, an odor like burning rubber, and smoke all coming from the front area under the hood. I had been getting a CEL for P0171 but was too busy to get it fixed. Any idea what this could be and are the 2 things related? Leak in vacuum hose? I'm thinking I should just get it towed to a shop. Thanks in advance for any advice.

Try making a video of the sound at start up. It could be your SAP or power steering maybe.
