Default Snow just completly f**ked me over

When i was backing out of my driveway the snow hooked under my S4 front bumper and basically destroyed it, almost ripped it right off the car. Busted my exhaust in two places, ripped out a fog light, and my starter is slipping now too. I have volcano black pearl paint so its not cheap to get it matched. I shoveled for two damn hours, was running late for work... thought i had enough of the snow out of the way to get out ok. Oh well... question is

Does anyone know if any companies make a full carbon fiber front bumper? I would rather spend the exta to get the better one then to get some fiberglass pos and pay 600 bucks to paint match it... if not, anyone know where i can get a good price on a new S4 front? im not a fan of the RS4 front unless the whole kit is done, but i cant afford 7 grand for a full body kit.

Thanks guys...

Why would you want a carbon fiber bumper? I'm pretty sure 99.99% of the multi million dollar race cars have fiberglass bumpers on them. There is no performance enhancement with a carbon fiber bumper, its probably 1000% more expensive, and in terms of the direction and type of force a bumper takes, would most likely last half as long as a fiberglass bumper. People have this notion that carbon fiber = stronger and better; ever hit a golf club the wrong way? Due to the arrangement of carbon, it has strength in certain directions, and deviations from those directions causes the material to be about as strong as a wet noodle.

For one, you have 9 posts and your trying to flame people. thats a load of crap.

Second, I am doing it for the look. I never said anything about a performance increase. My car has plenty of performance mods and if you checked my sig before posting, you would know i already know these cars pretty well. I know how CF works, i dont need a lecture.

Thirdmost pearl paints are not cheap to match, so once you factor in the paint, which I wouldnt have to do with a CF front bumper, it will probably be very close in price. at least within 300 bucks.

Please take youre bitching somewhere else, ive had enough bullsh*t for one day TYVM

I apologize if you felt I was bitching, but that really wasn't my intention. Its also not bs'ing, I'm a biochemistry and materials major, I deal with these kind of compounds on molecular and applied level every day. There is a reason why in real life applications, carbon fiber is not used for certain purposes. The planar alignment of carbon molecules in carbon fiber (similar to that of graphite) causes it to be a somewhat poor material for a bumper.

Also, I'm not sure what "volcano black" is, but I own a 355F1 Ferrari, pained a color I'm sure you know, rosso corsa. Now I'm not 100% sure, but I think its a fair assumption that getting a can of Ferrari paint is a little more expensive then getting a can of "volcano black," which is still cheaper then buying a carbon fiber bumper (from the prices I just saw on google). Even if its slightly more expensive to get your bumper painted the color of your car, its still going to be cheaper in the long run when you crack it again backing out of your driveway, parking, in traffic, or during an accident and have to replace it.

Its your money tho, do what you want.

ETA: I'm no mechanic, but I'm reasonably sure changing the properties of the bumper would effect the collision sensors for airbags, etc that are behind the bumper.

hmmm.. pics of this F1? Also all pearl paints are expensive plus there's that little thing we all love called labor, that is unless you have the proper equip and know-how. He didn't ask if the cf bumper was strong or not he asked if anyone knew where he could get one.

siralconx: sorry about you're ride bro, sh** likethat sucks.

camhabib actually on audi's the bumper and the bumper cover are two seperate parts so it wont affect the collision rating of the car. Also a black pearl(or any pearl paint) will cost more then ferrarri (or any standard gloss paint) to match, unless your paying the extra to get it directly from ferrari. Also i am not a mechanic, but my dads a mechanic, my best friends a mechanic, i have learned from them, i can do just about anything laborwise myself, but I cant match a pearl paint.

Ya it does. I did something similar to mine when Ipulled in too far at my apt complex and the bumper slid on to one of those concrete blocks at the front of the space. When I left the next morning the bumper got caught and broke a bunch of the snaps that hold itin place. I hated having my car look f'd up even if was onlyfor a couple days.
