yeah... all that muffler weight is what holds the 12v back... add the resonator and it's a regular anchor to performance...

yah...

The stock resonator is an anchor for sure. But, resonators that come on aftermarket exhausts and one's that are sold seperately are a fraction of the weight of the stock one. DD's sound too poppy/sputtery without a res. imo, and they probably arent restrictive in any measureable way other than a little added weight which you are ulikey to notice.

Question? Stock S4's come with high flow CATs, like a screen door, you can see through it. Yet there are those who want to upgrade to them anyway. Is this A4 owners or a larger surface area CAT upgrade.

They arent "high flow".. The catalyst element might not be as "concentrated" due to the fact that on an S4, the cats only have exhaust gas from 3 cyl's to clean/cat. Just because it's an S4 doesnt mean it is imune to OBDII and EPA standards. If Audi claims their stock cats are "high flow" or performance related in any way its news to me and a big surprise. Do you have a pic of this? An S4 should have as much or more to gain from replacing the cats w/ straight pipes.

Lightbulb Go vibrant

If you remove the res the interior drone will become unbearable, plus the exhaust will be too loud. I replaced it with a smaller, much lighter, res from vibrant. It's still freeflowing with almost no drone. Now the exhaust sounds almost stock at idle but definitely aftermarket at even the slightest throttle. Dare I say it almost R32-ish. I just love the suttle barks and backfires on downshifts.

When I hacked off my stock 2K S4 resonator and muffler I noted I could simply see it was just a mesh screen, not a glass pack or bead. Apon discussion with both an exhaust shop and my Audi only mech. It was stated that those were high flow cats and they came stock. Oh and I passed CA smog with 9ppm HC's. APR 91OCT. http://vids.myspace.com/index.cfm?fu...deoID=34942112

Alright, so I went ahead and bought the Magnaflow 14862... this:

If I get my shop to do it, is it a straight weld on to the stock pipes if I don't quite want to upgrade my pipes at the moment?
