Default Some items I need help with

Hey guys I just went through doing a power steering pump replacement with my brother and I seen two items that sort of confuse me on what they do, one being because they look odd and two because my brother broke one of them and i need to find out what it is. The line i have in my hand had a plastic tube hooked to it and went into the ball thing that is in the other picture. The line broke when we were trying to hook it back up and i hope someone could inform on what these things are. Thanks for all the help

The ball is the vacuum accumulator for the intake changeover butterfly. At high RPM (about 4,200) that butterfly opens and you get a little more power. More importantly, it runs on manifold vacuum so if you aren't connected up, you are leaking all sorts of vacuum. You'll make a CEL very soon, and be down on power.

That ball should sit under/behind the PS pump.

Thank you very much for the response. I got a new vaccumm hose and replaced the whole thing. I have about 5 codes that are triggering a cel and I've had a cel on since I've bought the car so I wouldn't know if that was triggering a cel but as easy as it fell off id say it wasn't hooked up

You're probably right. It should sit on a bracket....maybe it even bolts right to the PS pump bracket, I don't remember. But the location in your picture isn't right. It prob was just laying there.
