I'm thinking like Zadeluca. Open circuit could be a lose or
disconnected wire to the sensor.

Hold your horses there shotgun. The tensioner is one expensive *** part so we want to eliminate anything else before we do the tensioner, 2.8L engines don't have many problems with the tensioners so im ruling that out for the moment.
How many miles are on your car? Have you had the timing belt changed recently?

Are you sure your not looking at the crank sensor and not the cam sensor? The crank sensor is less involved to remove then the cam sensor. That would be located on one of the heads front or back

This is a crank sensor (pictured below)..... And if you click the link, you will see the cam sensor on the left bank of the engine when you are facing the car. Just right of the cam sprocket. Picture is too big to post. http://www.webmeta.com/~john/albums/tbelt/acf.sized.jpg

OK THIS IS REALLY SOME BULL!!!! ok so i took it to my mechanic and he got it running, he said he heard a weird noise coming form the timing belt though, ok so the iddler/ tensioner busted and all the ball bearings fell out. sooo the timing belt lost all tension and baaaaammm, possible The piston and some valves kissed! bullshit, now i have to get the engine rebuilt! ok this is the worst part, ti had just got the timming belt donne about 600 miles ago, and i changed everything, timing belt, roller, tensioner, water pump crank seals.. everything! even the front mount! sooo right now im really reay hoping that no valves got bent!

Sucks! Count on there being valves bent, and hope that it's just several. If you over tourqued the bolt that holds the idler/roller I think that could cause the bearings in it to prematurely wear out. Good luck.
