Default spare tire / full tire

What size tire would properly fit in the spare tire well in the trunk?
That donut has to go!

I want to buy a 16" steelie but would like to know what tire would fit best in there without it really bludging.

195/55/16?

99 2.8 btw.

does the tirebuldge upwards?

think 205-55-16 would cause it to buldge? After the blow out I had this weekend I wana get a normal spare vs that donut which is ridiculous. I dont understand why they would design something so crappy like a donut. Its supposed to drive you to the nearest tire station but I was 30 miles from the nearest Exit.

I've had a couple flat tyres, and my stock 16"s with 205/55/HR16 tyres mounted fit just fine in the spare tyre well.

My 225/45R17 and 225/40R18 would not fit in my Avant. and those are only a half inch taller. Maybe the Avant has a smaller compartment?

my 225/40/18 sort of fits but when i lower the cover it buldges. I might go with this steelie rim and get a 205/55/15 tire for it.

I couldn't get mine in. I think it's set up differently than the sedans. :'(

stahly22: does the wooden board cover sit flat with the tire in there?
