Default Steering rack replacement???

I have found an article on how to do it myself, but was wondering if this article is just for FWD or if it is the same for Quattro?? http://www.audiworld.com/tech/misc.html I'm not sure if that is a direct link but if not, its the 4th article down under misc topics.

Anyone know where a good place to find a reman'd rack would be???

the DIY is exactly what you do. just follow it and make sure to soak each bolt with PB before you touch it with a socket

be careful getting a new rack, there are rebuilt racks, which only the parts that have gone bad are fixed, and remanufactured rack and pinions where the whole thing has been gone over. i got my remanufactured rack from a place called s&g imports in roseville mi. paid i think $419 after the core return, but i got a remanufactured rack and not a rebuilt. the number of the place is 586-777-7777 (seriously) and im sure with how awesome the michigan economy is they would be willing to ship it anywhere. hope this helps.

Lol..This state is done. Makes me sick.
I am eyeing my rubber boot on the end since it's looking like it will give way. Thanks for the local post .

no prob man. s&g is located between 12 and 13 mile off grosbeck. where in michigan you located?

and the rubber boot on the rack is just a dust cover i believe, i could be wrong. but they do sell just the rubber boot replacements, i've seen them. its when you got power steering coming out of the boot that you have a real problem.

I'm about 1 1/2 hours north of Lansing off of 127.
Good to know about the boot. Just looks like it's bunching up and getting stress cracks.
