Default strange increase of power at high rpm....

I have had my car for about a month now and have been babying it because i knew that no major maintanence has been done to it by the previous owner. But i finally got around to working on it, Timing belt, tensioner, water pump, thermostat, accessory belt, spark plugs, spark plug wires, air filter, oil change, oil filter, fuel filter and i think thats all. So after a week of driving it nice and easy i finally decided i want to see how this car feels with the pedal down. it accelorated smoothly right up til around 6000rpm then a huge increase in power happend. enough to jerk me back in my seat with out any hesitation before that, ive never had a car that had an increase in hp that high into the powerband and have been hesitant to put the pedal down again to see if it would repeat.
my questions.
Has this happend to anybody else?
Is it normal?
What do you think it might be if something is wrong?

that's odd. mine never did that. i mean for a NA motor, you should feel steady increase in power and then it tapers off but that power is usually in the 4-6k range not after 6k. do you have any way to log MAF readings and engine RPM?

i dont have any way to log it.
yea i thought that the 2.8 built power til around 4k then dropped off. And it doesnt feel weak before that either, so im kinda curious how it manages to make more power from nothing haha

Nope. The 30v builds power from 3200 on up.
