The hose end at the radiator is a clip and the other end at the pipe is a clamp.

If your car over heated you might want to check your coolant tank and its cap, because when you over heat it can pop the seal on the cap and even crack the tank.

No, it wasnt that. I dunno, I just put two things into account.
1. There was a clamp when I took it apart, whats the harm in putting a clamp back on?
2. The tank was a little over-full, maybe a few centimeters over the max line. The more coolant in the system could have led to higher pressure.

Just today I noticed a small leak on one of the fittings on my expansion tank. I know what you mean, seems like its one thing after another sometimes

About this rattle you speak of, does it sound like metal-on-metal, plastic-on-metal, just plastic?

Hard to tell. It hasn't happened in a few days, so I've been just rollin. The car made a nice 20 mile round trip yesterday evening and had enough spunk to race (and spank) a supercharged toyota! That felt nice. I didn't floor it, and the toyota kinda hung in my blind spot, just hoping. Then when the pedal hit the carpeted metal it was all headlights in the rear view.

What are sisters for?
It would appear that the damage wrought has exceeded the value of the car... again. Oh, and it's been fully functional for three days. Yahoo. Cursed, I'm telling you the thing's cursed.

Anyone else feeling this?

I'm kinda drifting away from my audi. Lots of miles, lots more problems and lots of headaches. Its not even fun to drive anymore, I just listen for more potential problems. I cant trust her and she's supposed to last me the next four years as a daily. That means no road trips.

Enter new project: VW bus, either T1 or T2 cant decide, with a custom TDI swap and updated parts. Also lowered, probably on bags. Now I have no idea what I'm diving into, but I have free college and student loans to burn. Lots to learn, but this project seems much more suitable to my needs. In the meantime I'm thinking of selling/trading my A4 for a MKII GTI. I really like Audi's but I can't make a project out of one, not the way I want to use it. Daily driver in shady back alleys and back country, just asking to get stolen or fucked up.
