Default Sunroof has a mind of its own...

I haven't been driving my car much recently...but I've noticed that my sunroof has been opening itself to the tilt up position on its own, quite often. At first it would happen when I turn the dial to the closed position after having the whole thing retracted back- it would close and then tilt up seconds later and remain open.

But recently, its been just tilting up spontaneously when I haven't even touched the dial? Any ideas? fuse maybe? I would think if the fuse was going it wouldn't work at all...but I'm hoping for something simple b/c electrical work is a pain.

Winter is around the corner so this is not ideal.

The potentiometer (switch) is bad. You can try and take it out and clean it like some cheap folks do here or just buy a new one.

Mine did that for while same with my climate control they just randomly do what they want. But the sunroof spasm sucked during the winter espesially when i would wake up with snow on my car and i turned on the car before cleaning it off and sure enough it opened.

yea jrock is right.. mine was doing the same thing after i had already read the DIY he linked to.. i followed the DIY, and its never done it once since.. and it had done it at least once everytime i drove my car before.. save yourself the money and clean it, and bend the little prongs out further so that they contact better.. worked excellent

Thanks again....is there anything that this community doesn't know or hasn't been through? LOL.

I will try the DIY and if it doesn't work I guess I'll by the switch. How much is it at the dealer btw? Or where else could I get one...(online)?
