my temp gauge works when it wants. ill start the car and it will be dead, not even a little jump. ill be driving for about 30 min and all of a sudden it will start working and it will drop back to zero what could it be.

 

Coolant Temprature Sensor. Ours was doing the same thing, and it cured it.

If it warms up at idle and cools down as you drive, I'd bet thermostat.

 

no it just works when it wants i might be driving on the high way and ill see the little needle start moving up and ill look at it just go back down. like today when i got off work it started to go up about midway home and did not move from the first little bar on the temp gauge

 

i never had a CEL. just a non working gauge
