does anybody have a test pipe and still pass the smog test?

 

it depends what kind of test they do

if your car is quattro, they can not sniff test it under load
as long as you dont have a check engine light you should pass

 

Good to know - my inspection is due shortly.

 

Here in Maryland 96 and newer they plug in to the obd2 port no tread mill test.

 

You will fail with no cat. Simple as that.

If any of your states have adopted the California test your pretty much screwed, they won't sniff test the exhaust under load but they will at idle and at 2,500 RPM's. Not to mention you will never pass the visual inspection.
