Default Timing Belt

Hello everyone,

I got a new Audi A4 2.8 Q with some 97000 miles on it. I checked with Carfax and it shows no issues on it. It shows no "Timing belt" change or anything significant. It said zero issues with the vehicle.

My question is, how do i know if my timing belt needs to be changed. Does it show any signs of wear or anything that indicated an immediate threat to timing belt? Im asking this as visually my timing belt looks fine and am wondering if it has been replaced recently.
The last owner was a lady and she has no clue about it.

I stay near champaign illinois and please let me know if there is a good audi mechanic who can change my timing belt around here, or someone within 200 miles.

Is there a website where I can find high quality timing belt kit? I googled for it but i don't know which is of good quality.

Thank you

Hey welcome to the forums! Usually the consensus with t-belts is - with a purchased used car, if you don't know for sure if it's been changed or not and it's past the usual time to change it (around 80-100k) then definitely change it. If you're going to DIY or buy and bring it to a local shop, get the kit with water pump and belts and all the extra crap. It might cost a bit more now, but it can save a lot of labour later.

If you are considering DIY, here's a DIY how-to:

And if you haven't yet, definitely read the newbie guide:

Thank you Compmanben, I went to some nearby mechanics and asked them how much they would charge me for replacing timing belt, serpentine belt, idler, tensioner, waterpump, and thermostat. One guy told me $2250 and he would get his own parts. Another guy told me 500 if i get my own parts, Im planning on ordering those parts from autohausaz.com ( it costs me just above $200). Do you think $500 labor is reasonable?
I dont know how much it would cost me at the dealer, but is it worth getting it done by the dealer considering that I may get some warranty on the parts?
Sorry if im asking too many dumb questions.

Thanks

500$ is a fair price for all of the labor listed above.
