Default Timing belt ?

1999 Audi A4 Quatro 1.8T

Just recently put a new timing belt & tensioner on my car and have been driving it a while. I had someone hook it up to their computer and they said it was throwing an occasional cam sensor error. A quick check showed the cam was off two teeth. I pulled the front off far enough to get to the top timing belt cover but cannot compress the tensioner.
- Is there a way to compress or remove the tensioner without removing the bottom cover?
- should the crank pulley mark and camshaft mark line up perfectly?
- what size torx bolt is on the crankshaft pulley?

Thanks

I'm pretty sure the crank-pulley bolt is a 6mm allen but I could be wrong...but I dont think I am

I read somewhere on here that sometimes the two tdc marks don't line up exactly, and you should check and proof mark it yourself during dismantle.

Agreed with both these guys, and as for compressing the tensioner, you will likely need to dismantle it all. I would anyway - it's easy and lets you see everything much better.
