Default Timing belt question

Would it be possible to convert the timing belt on my '98 2.8 to a chain or gear drive?

gear drive- no

chain- i hate to say the word "impossible" but it would be pretty close to that. it would be far cheaper to just change your belt every 70k.

You'll need to get in there to replace your leaky cam/crank seals every 80-100k anyways. But that would be nice.

I think when I get more money after basic training I might go for it, but that'll be another year or so. If it works I'll put up a how-to thread with pictures and everything, I may even make a video. But I would def. like to try for a gear drive or double roller chain because there's no/very little (respectively) chain stretch.
