Default Transmission swap?? Tiptronic --> Manual

hey guys i've been thinking a lot these days to what extent am i going to go with my mods... and decided that i want a manual transmission. i have a 2001 a4 1.8 tq tiptronic and i could just sell my car and get another car with manual transmission. but i've done some stuff to it already and i would like to keep my car. i am in love with it.

so my question is... has anybody done some kind of a transmission swap? is it possible to get a manual transmission (such as manual s4 transmission) stick it in my a4 1.8tq instead of my original tiptronic?

and if possible, how much would the whole process cost?

thank you.

money can do wonders, and in the case of a transmission swap you'll need a whole lot of it.

I remember dreaming of converting my 2000 mazda protege from a ATX to a MTX, and we're talking about a comparatively simple japanese FWD car here and I still ended up needing;
the transmission
different tranny mounts
master cylinder for transmission
Completly new engine harness
New ECU for MTX protege
flywheel and clutch of course..
shifter linkage
new drive axels
new radiator
different brake master cylinder
the dozens of small to large bolts.
would have needed someone to cut the holes in the firewall for the clutch.
new gas and brake pedal
new clutch pedal and linkage
wiring for clutch pedal

I was young and stupid and most shops laughed at me. but the few that said they'd tackel it quoted me anywhere from $3000 to $4000.

my year older 99.5 A4 is so vastely more complex than that car I don't want to imagine what your 04 would be like..

if you're comitted to such a task expect to need the above including a few more items I'm sure.. and probaly double the prices I was quoted.

the easiest way to accomplish such a task is acutaly to buy a junked manual transmission version of the car and swap out the parts as you see them. So you're quiet litertally buying a whole new card just to complete it.

suffice it to say.. my solution to switch the transmission in my mazda is now my weekend driver, my 99.5 5spd quattro A4 lol.

if you absolutely are in love with your car and you just want the MTX to go BT the best(and by far the easiest and cheapest) solution is to beef up the triptronic tranny with beefier valvebodies, bigger oil cooler and a new torque converter.. if you search around a bit I believe a thread can be found to level10 or some other solution that does provide such upgrades for the ATX in our cars, those simple mods can go a long way to increasing the capacity of the atx and unless you go BAT it won't matter which transmission you have.

It can be done using a combination of B5 and B6 parts. However as 1781cc stated it won't be inexpensive.
