I have a 1996 a4 Quattro 5 speed manual with just over 105,000 miles and my tripometer says however many miles since I last reset it then it says in 2nd I am wondering if this is something messing up or what???

 

What? Even if your post had any sort of punctuation it still wouldn't make sense. If you're asking whether the tripmeter records the distance since you last reset it, then yes that is generally what a tripmeter does.

 

Sorry my punctuation does suck! I know that. Anyway no I am saying my tripometer will says right now 300 miles then that will disappear and it will say in 2nd like I am driving 300 miles in 2nd gear

 

I'm still not following, manual cars don't have a gear display. Even if they did what would that have to do with the tripmeter?

 

Not meaning a gear display the tripometer itself says that I did 300 miles (like it should) the says in 2nd

 

You lost me at "the says in 2nd", it was all good until then.

 

I am confused by it too that is why i am posting it on here never seen any vehicle display that before

300 miles <--- tripometer


This is what is displayed randomly
105,080 <--- odometer again
In 2nd. <---- where tripometer normally is

 

You mean "In 2"? Probably telling you its time for an "INspection". This is triggered after so many miles. This should be how to reset it: DIY: B5 A4/S4 Reset OIL & INSPEC Light
