Default turbo whistles like a siren

I was told the accuator on my turbo was bad. at first i thought i would have to buy a whole new turbo. found just the accuator and mechanic put it on the old turbo and I was off and running for 3 days. then a whistling sound started and has become progressively worse. I sound kinda like a police car siren on medium volume. took the car back to the mechanic who I assume troubleshooted hoses etc. and informed me it was definitely the turbo (thinks maybe one of the wing thingies might have a chip or dent or something).

anyone ever experience something like this?

ps: woman here, excuse the laymen terms.

My guess is bent compressor wing/wings or similar.
One of my customers had a similar noise and it was 3 bent wings on the compressor.

Thanks for taking the time to respond. Sounds like the mechanic is on the right track.

The bearings go on old turbos and it causes the blades inside the turbo to rub against the housing. Turbos spin about 100,000rpm at peak.

In any case, it's the turbo.

yep, its the turbo. a dentist drill noise coming from the turbo means that the bearings are out like bacon said.

Use this as an excuse to upgrade to a bigger turbo.

Like everyone else has said, I think it's the turbo.

So you are saying the bearings going bad cause the blades to bend? If that is the case, even if they are straightened out, they will bend again? Any other way the blades can get bent? What does this mean? Is it likely the turbo will blow out?

Well, that's a drag. I just spent $250 on the part to go on the turbo and $550 in labor If I wanted to upgrade to a K04 what would I need to do? What parts are required? How much power would I get?

Don't bother upgrading to a K04. It's barely better. The increases that people say they get from it are 95% from tuning, not the turbo.
