Default Two Problems. Bad Cat / Rear Wheel Bearing

Cars a 99.5 A4 1.8TMQ

My cat's worn through basically completely so its definitely shot. I was just looking for help in finding a good place to pick up a new one at a good price. Cars bone stock so just OEM.

And I've had an annoying rubbing noise which goes away if I make right turns. My mechanic friend said hes pretty sure its my rear wheel bearing but hes not too familiar with Audis. I checked the Haynes manual and it says that the tools and expertise required to change the bearing is something that should be left to professionals. I was just wonder if anyone has suggestions of whether it really is such a big job that I should have it done by a shop or if its something my friend should be able to figure out.

Any info helps. Thanks.

its not really that hard, with part and labor it can be done for 200ish. ive done it in my garage with a hammer, malet and 2x4. and of course the basic hand toold like the ratchet and open end wrench

Thanks man so I guess I'll find out what some shops will run me too if its only ganna be a couple hundred bucks.

And the cat thats bad is the front one. I found one on eBay but I know we're notorious for needing specific parts since they make 4 different brake pads for a b5 I wouldn't be surprised if theres 8 different kinds of cats.

Heres one of the auctions I found so far. Here.

That looks like the one but the price is almost too good to be true. Personally I would stay away from eBay.

you should just get a high flow cat, they look stock, with some added benefits and they aren't that expensive. labree has one for like 250 bucks.

I took some pictures of where the cat eroded. As far as I can tell all I have to do is buy a new cat and it simply bolts back in right? Shouldn't involve any welding of any sort. Its worn right where the front of it bolts on, you can see the front O2 sensor in the picture.

Also I was told that debris from when it eroded could have clogged or gotten caught further back in the system. My muffler has a slight rattle like theres bits in the bottom of it. I heard theres crystals or solutions you can put in that will break out or force out any crap thats clogging. Any knowledge on that would be helpful too. Thanks.

i cant remember what the outlet side of the cat looks like and stock exhaust, but i assume it just another flange with bolts... may need welding tho. If the comb inside the stock cat is still fine, and the shell is salvageable, then simply just have the flange welded back on where it broke off. Looks like a pretty clean break, but the cat does look a lil haggard.

quite possible, but could also mean that the muffler is just shot. I see an exhaust shop in your future...

EDIT: yea theres no welding necessary to put the cat in and out. sorry.
