Default Ughhh Oil Pan help!

Hello all. I just picked up a 98 a4 2.8 that needs some work. Drives great but was leaking oil around the pan and plug. So today I planned on changing the gasket. So I drained the oil and bingo found the majority of the problem, where the plug screws in was cracked and missing a piece. So I continued to remove the pan. There is a bar that is in the way of the back row of screws on the pan. So I removed the drivers side 2 bolts, then went to the passenger side.... snap... bolt broke off.

So here is what I need to know....

First off I m not really sure what this bar is and how to fix the bolt that broke.

Second when i called napa to get a new pan and gasket they asked if it was 24 or 30 valve... How do I know?

Sorry just got the car and dont know as much as I do about the jap cars..

You will need to get a bolt extracting set to get that bolt out.

As for your car it's actually a 12 valve. Audi's V6 came in 12 and 30 valve versions. The 30V didn't come till 99 though.

it's def a 30v, only the 96-97 were 12v. for the oil pan, use a female easy out aka bolt remover to get it out. Then go to the parts store with the non broken ones and get new ones.

So the bolts that snapped holds the sway bar in place.... so an extractor I dont believe will work as it looks like the bolt part is pressed into the support?

Help?

is there any of the bolt stickin out or did it break off inside the hole? Drill that sucker out and clean it up. you might need to buy a tap and use a slightly bigger bolt depending on how reemed out that hole is now. Time-serts or heli-coils work pretty well.

hey not to steal the tread but all of the sudden my car has started to leak oil, not just a few oil spots but small puddles i have stopped driving it. i called some buddies about it and we all think it coming from a gasket or oil pan. so here is my question for you all. its leaking from the passenger side under the hood near the dipstick
