Which Underdrive Pulley Kit
Hi there all, once again i seek your wealth of knowledge to answer my stupid questions! I have already searched the forum for my answer with no luck, so here goes.
Firstly is a light weight underdrive pulley mod worth the effort & money?
I have seen the ECS tuning one and there are two kits listed on there website, one kit for AEB & ATW engine codes and another for AWM & AUG engine codes. My engine code is AJL so my question is which kit would fit if any? Its a DBC model registered in 2000, i can only imagine its actually a 1999.5 model engine but not entirely sure.
Does anyone perhaps know the differences between these two kits, my guess its actually the belts that differ as I've not come across or noticed different crank pulleys on diffferent 1.8T 20V motors.
So, can anyone out there shed any light on this?
Many thanks
Andy

If you want pulleys, lw ones are fine, aviod underdrive. You wont see much if any of a gain, you will notice that the engine revs a little easier. Also, if you ever plan on revving high (above 7k), i would avoid them since the engine can become off balance
I got one and well I cant really give you any numbers on it. Its kind of hit and miss. I hear some people can feel a difference while other people think it will just throw of teh balancer, etc. There is also a guy who dynoed his car on vwvortex and tried it out before and after. Needless to say he ended up losing a couple horsepower. However, it hasn't ruined anything for me yet.
THats actually bogus info. The guy had as sw change also which throws a big ? in to dyno. It was far from back to back (done awhile apart) so you cant really make that conclusion
