Upgraded exhaust!!! Off a stock S4 :) (Pics)
Got a sweeeeeeet deal on the stock exhaust setup off of an 02 S4. My local tuning shop that I take my car to for work and upgrades had an 02 S4 come in for a catback install and the owner said he had no use for the stock Brüllen setup, so the owner of the shop gave him 50 bucks for it, called me up and said it'd bolt right on to my car, so I got the whole 8 or so feet of exhaust setup; the resonator and muffler plus the slightly larger piping for 50 bucks.
It ended up not being quite as bolt on as expected, but the muffler shop right around the corner from the tuning shop set it straight with a couple of welds and now my car sounds great, I'm very satisfied with it
ImTheDevil: When I talked to you about this, I thought it was the whole setup from the headers all the way out, but it was just everything from the pipe that connects the split off the two cylinder banks to the rest of the exhaust so it hasn't done anything negative to the performance as far as I can tell, seems a bit peppier all around in fact, even in the low range RPMs.

Semi-bolt on. The pipes coming out of the stock cats just before the two sets of pipes run together were apparently a shave of a hair smaller than the slip connector off the S4 pipes so they cut my stock slip connector off and welded it on to the S4 pipes and it was all good, but the hangers and everything like that is all in the same place so other than the slight size difference of the pipes, it was bolt on.
As for the tails, I really have no idea, that is what was on there when I bought the car. Its definitely a 98 though, running all 30 valves instead of 12. Maybe the previous owner liked the 97 style tails better and swapped em or something, I have no clue. I never thought much of it cuz I thought the upgraded tails came with the facelift models after 99.5 and those that I have was for the pre facelift models 96-98.

That looks really good. Not too flashy and fits right in. Any sound clips?
There are 3 different kind of taillights for the B5. Yours is the first generation of the pre-facelift. There's a second generation of the pre-facelift in which it looks similar to the facelift but the white part is on the upper side instead of the bottom.

^ pre-facelift right before the facelift

^ facelift taillights

I seeee, that makes sense. I like the facelift ones most, the white looks goofy being up high like that IMO.
I can try to get a sound clip soon, I'll see if my phone'll do the sound any justice, but if not, I'll have my buddy bring his laptop over and hook a computer mic to it and see if I can get it to sound any better that way.
The magnaflow produces a pretty similar sound on this engine, this youtube video has a stock 2.8 clip at the first 10-15 seconds, and then a clip of it with the magnaflow at idle and with a drive by. The brüllen setup looks similar and sounds similar, but the tone is deeper at idle and throatier through the drive by. Which may be attributed to the different resonator and bigger piping than is stock on the 2.8 but I'm no exhaust expert so I can't say for sure.
