Well I had my heart set on a 1.8T 5 speed but it got sold and having a hard time finding another that I can afford. Does the 2.8V6 require a lot more changes in order to add a turbo and what not. I was going to build up a 1.8T engine completely new and then drop it into the car in a few months. I was going to shoot for ~500-600hp at the wheels just wondering if this is possible on the V6 for about the same cost as it would be on the 1.8T? If I can't find a 1.8T I may have to go with the 2.8 model.

 

With a decent amount of money, anything is possible. You should consider the VR6T!

 

Well I know about what money I was going to spend on upgrading internals and what not on the 1.8T I'm mainly just wondering if it's going to cost me a ton more or not.

And are you saying drop a VR6T into the A4? Or get a Golf? Because I'd much prefer the A4

 

Ok after reading some more you are talking about dropping it into the A4. You know I've never really seen the VR6 engine! It's interesting that's for sure! Not really a V shape pistons are kind of vertical.

Anyways looking at 034's site, is there any parts that need fabricating other then the engine mounts they have and the tranny adapter plate? I read the couple of threads where it was mentioned in here. They said some fab skills would be needed I'm just wondering what kind of fab skills and if they are beyond my abilities.

 

Please read the stickies on this forum. The 2.8 doesn't have much aftermarket support and requires a TON more money then what you have spent on a 1.8T which has a lot more aftermarket support. The 2.8 engine is a very solid engine but with less money you can build the 1.8T.

 

If you want that type of power skip the 2.8 all together and just buy a S4 2.7t.

To make 500-600whp with the 1.8t plan on spending a bunch of money and expect to replace the transmission often, I know because I actually make 650awhp and believe me its not as easy as you think which is why I have only seen 1 other A4 1.8t put down over 600whp. Even more money to do the VR6 turbo conversion, but if you go that way I know a great place to buy a custom CM FX850 for the VR6/01E combo.

 

Well I was planning on doing the S4 tranny swap. I don't think the S4 is in my price range. The A4 1.8T's I've been looking at are high mileage and around 3-4k. The engine build was going to happen over a period of time. So the cost would be spread out and what not.

 

How much investment would it take to get the S4 2.7TT to do 500-600 wheel hp? I'm looking to get something similar in power to my old Dodge Stealth R/T that I had in AZ and sold. It was Dyno'd at 532hp at the wheels. So something around there or better would be great.

 

Well, I don't know the particulars but most members here agree that the S4 tranny swap into an A4 is a waste of time and money. Like I said, I'm clueless as to why but maybe someone else can chime in.

 

I think with the Stage III K04's setup, it probably will be making around 400ish? I'm not completely sure on this.

In which, you probably need to go GT if you're looking to make 500+ HP. The GT setup is going to cost decent amount of money though.
