Default Vag-Com fails to work for my 2001 1.8t quattro a4

My buddy is a Volkswagen tech and has his own personal Vag-Com (latest version with latest USB cable) and we were go I g to try to activate the window roll up by remote entry buttons like most everyone else has. My problem is Vag-Com won't communicate with any of my body control modules at all. It links up just fine with my ECU but fails every time at any body control modules. Any help???

The B5 doesn't have a BCM, you need to look for the central locks or central convenience module, I forget which.

We tried everything. It literally only works on the ECU. I didn't remember what they were that we tried to connect too but I remember Vag-Com only worked on my ECU and nothing else. But thank you for the response!

That's the guide we followed to get the right codes for the features. It was a no go. It wouldn't connect to anything but the ECU for the misfire counter and TBA. Aside from that, we didntvdo much with the ECU.

Do you have an aftermarket radio, is your abs (or any other control unit) unit acting up? If you answered yes to any of those questions, unplug the offending part and try again.

It came with an aftermarket radio. I don't have not ever had a factory radio. That can mess up Vag-Com? What should I do to work around that? Hopefully I don't need a factory radio!

I know that VAG COM allows you to read engine codes and such on the Audis is there so,ethic else that it also does? Change setting or anything?

My main question is is it free? Do you just get a USB cable from amazon or something and download a program? This is a question I've had for a while actually.
