Default vibration on acceleration only.. 1997 A4

automatic, has done around 170,000 km, regularly serviced etc;

it vibrates when you accelerate, but the minute you take the foot of the accelerator it stops.. it vibrates/shakes when i accelerate up to a certain speed but stops the second i take my foot of the accelerator. (fades when the car warms up more/has been driving for a long time).

i've looked it up online and nothing seems to help.. so far my mechanic has changed the cv joints/shaft and also a valve.. neither were successful. he seems to think that it is the torque converter? also i think my MFS needs replacing, could this be the problem?

Do you have problems when changing gears, do you feel that it doesn't want to go in without pushing a little bit?

most likely the cv axle.... check your boots see if they are torn. or could be axle support bearing

I have the same problem in my 99.5 B5 1.8T, the car bucks or shudders when accelerating and the engine bogs down (sporatically) when idling. The condition improves after driving for 40 min to a hour too but there are no engine codes/CEL, and I just replaced both axles as well... I have a GIAC chip in the car, but I don't think that is the issue. This problem is very annoying!!! and I'm not sure how to proceed... plz help

check for codes anyway, your CEL may be burnt out...

Check your spark plugs, if they're old, replace them, and gap them to .028.
