Thanks for the link I am idiot LOL, but the mechanic has already replaced the wastegate actuator, but they said the rod is broken, on the link that you sent me is that the rod that is being referred to?

 

The rod is part of the actuator/wastegate. Think the mech might be starting to take advantage. You need to have pics of what they claim is broken. If its the flapper thats in the housing, then you need a new housing, if its the "rod" the new wastegate will comewith a new arm/"rod" to replace that

 

Well from what I understand the actuator, w/o rod was replaced and they then found that the wastegate is stuck open because the rod that moves the flapper had snapped.....

 

but the flapper still flapps

 

The arm will come with a new wastegate, you really cant just replace one part. Seriously, you can do it yourself, takes like 2mins to swap wastegates on a turbo that is out of the car.

 

Well currently the turbo is in the car, so if the flapper is okay then I can just replace the actuator and the rod? i am sry I am new at the 1.8t thing but I do have expirience with engines I used to own a Z28. I can work my way around the car it just takes me longer..lol. I just called the dealer again and they told me that they replaced the actuator and it didnt some with a rod, but the flapper still flapps

 

It is all one piece... ^ the picture above. Get a second opinion on your car. I had the same situation with my friends mazda speed and they tried to tell us that the turbo had to be replaced as well. The wastegate just failed in the open position and we changed it ourselves over a few beers. They also tried to tell us that his TB needed to be replaced at 50,000... STUPID DEALERS. Good luck

 

Well Thank you for your advice I know that the actual "gate" or flapper in the turbo is working its just stuck open because the actuator rod is broken I can just change this part and I will be good, thank you.
Does anyone Have a DIY on this project?

 

unbolt and unclip the wastegate, then reverse process.

 

Is it hard to get too, w/o a lift just a jack
