Default Weird ABS issue- 1999 A4 Quattro Sedan

Car was braking fine and have not had issues but the ABS Dash Light was on so I had it scanned and found that the right speed sensor was bad. Bought one and had a mechanic replace it over the weekend. Here is where it gets weird, after he replaced the sensor he went to drive the car and the light was off. Braked and the rear wheels locked up. After he was able to get them to release the ABS light came back on and is still on. The really strange thing is that the cable on the old sensor had been cut so it would not work. I don't have a lot of history on this car because I bought it for my high schooler to drive this winter. We are in Michigan so I really want to get the ABS fixed and now also dont want it to lock up again when my kid is driving. Anyone experiece this before or know what the cause is? Thanks

If the ABs light is on there should be a new code present, what is it?

+1 Gotta know what VAG-COM is seeing. There's at least one code in that ABS module.

These cars are famous for developing faults in the ABS control module's bonding wires. You definitely want to do a VCDS (formerly VAG-COM) scan.
