Weird Transmission Problems
OK so I JUST wrote a long story on my tranny problems and it didn't go through, so I'm going to try and make this short and sweet. Oh and I did search, really wasn't able to find a definate anwser for my question.
SORRY! I have to do this in mutiple posts as AF isn't working rightand won't take my long post but will take my short ones.
I have a 1998 Audi a4 Tip 1.8t Quattro w/ 170,000 miles. Tranny fluid has never been changed, as far as I know.

It studders at quick stops (almost seems to want to stall), slips in 1-3rd gear, fades in and out of gear (with a resulting pop/clunk as the tranny re-engages unless I let off the gas in time), and has random jerking.
Its not in Limp mode as I can shift using tiptronic and in full auto it tries to hit the usual shift points. I really would love to save this beautiful car, but seeing as a rebuild is $3000+ I don't think it would bereasonable for a 10 year old car.
Can't check codes right now because I lost my VAG-COM cable [:@], but I have no CheckEngine Light and there are no other warning lights.
SO, basically I want to know if this is just a symptom of low/containminated fluid, or is this something more serious? Is it worth me doing a tranny fluid/filter change or should I just be bringing her to a shop? Really want to save her, miss the smoothness ofmy Audi.
And again, sorry for this multiple post thing, just wasn't working for me today. [&:]
