Default well i got my audi :)

ok so im kind new to the site.. well very new and i thought i would kinda introduce and ask for some advice from what seems like a good group of knowledgeable people..

but i managed to get my hands on a 2000 a4 1.8t in great condition with 60k miles on it..
here are a couple pics..

EDIT: seems it won't let pics show up so here are some links.. http://s75.photobucket.com/albums/i3...t=IMG_0155.jpg
http://s75.photobucket.com/albums/i3...t=IMG_0152.jpg
http://s75.photobucket.com/albums/i3...t=IMG_0161.jpg
http://s75.photobucket.com/albums/i3...t=IMG_0154.jpg

i have about 1000 to spend and thought i would kinda share what i was going to get with it see if there is anything i should get instead/stay away from..

before i start.. i have been reading the "newbie guides" and a lot of the diy guides.. well actually 98% of them in the a4 section.. so yeah.. i will be trying to upgrade my water pump/timing belt asap as im getting close to the 70/80k mile mark there.. so i know that

also i know ebay is frowned upon a little so if u see any problems with items i may be getting from there just give a hollar either way (and please have mercy on me )
ahah ok here is the list..

was going to start with a dv http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/VW-AU...spagenameZWD1V

then move on to getting a chip from APR tuning ( i know it says go with giac but looks to be a pita to deal with ? maybe they aren't but yeah)

ok moving i looked and found a diy on a fmic from ebay.. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Turbo...spagenameZWDVW

and then the last thing would be some headlights.. now i know i read it wasn't a great idea to go with ebay on this one but have bought my fair share of lights off ebay for another car and never had a problem..

but was thinking of either going with one of these...
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/96-97...em370039685058
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Audi-...em310038532306

i think that just about covers my money and maybe then some

again be easy on me b/c i know this is prob a thing asked a lot but hey u were all new at one point.. but let me know if i should do anything different.. but i thought this would be a good start for me.. (other than my audio equipment which will be going in that is worth about a grand in itself)

Sounds good but i would kinda stay away from ebay DV and ebay headlights. The intercooler is a good thing to have but the first thing you neeeeeeeed toget is a chip. Check out giac, apr and speed tuning. But to keep you busy for a while you can do some little DIYs so check out www.audidiy.com. Congrats on your purchase and good luck with your modding!!!!!!

welcome to the forums! chip, upgraded dv, exhaust, and boost gauge should be your first mods.

thanks for the heads up on the dv ebay valve.. i'll have to get the extra money for that.. and thanks for the diy site! its nice!

and for the second post.. i only have like a grand while i would like to do exhaust.. i will be doing that after i get the money for it..

o and i also plan on doing the air box mod.. seems like it has little flaws if done right with big return for free

Well, the intake mod will give you a more audible spool-up sound and will probably allow you to hear the DV more easily, but power-wise it's not going to do much. Even the stock setup is more than sufficient for flowing the air needed for increased levels of boost, so you won't really see a power gain there, but it's worth it for the sound.

Also, whatever money you've got available now, make sure to sit on some that you specifically earmark for problems - keep some money aside in case you get hit with a failure such as the known weak areas on these cars (and you'll get hit with it - it's just a matter of when), such as control arms or wheel bearings.

I would also suggest early on - give your car the full three-phase Seafoam treatment. When you change your oil afterward, switch over to a high-quality synthetic oil such as Mobil1 to keep your engine and turbo in good health as long as possible (the 1.8T is known for oil sludge issues and these steps will go a long way toward keeping things healthy).

yeah i know the deal with intakes its more for sound than power.. but they can give u a little better throttle responce (not much though) i have heard on the speed channel every 10 degrees cooler air being sucked inis one hp gain (woo one hp!) but yeah hahah i def know that is not much..

and sea foam! i was thinking about doing it.. and wanted to but im glad someone suggested that.. i did a bit of research on that a little while ago and seemed like a great clean for the engine!

and i know this is going to sound terrible. but im in college and don't currently have a job (will have a pretty decent one if i get what i want pulling 15 an hour over the summer) but if any problems do arise (for now) my parents were going to take care of ... i know that makes me sound like some stuck up rich kid but im really not.. just part of our agreement in the car deal

thanks for the heads up on all that though b/c i will be doing a lot of work an preventive maint. to make sure nothing indeed surprises me or alteast reduce that risk
