What B5 to buy???
Hello I am new here and am wondering what b5 model is the best for me right now I am looking at a 2000 a4 1.8t with 193,000 on it and am wondering if that is high for that engine. I know that the 2.8 can go forever with proper maintenance. I also really like the s4, but they are harder to come by for my price range. I only want a Tiptronic trans, so if someone could tell me the good and the bad of these three variants that would be great! Thanks
just stay away from turbo, all these guys r guna be like ya turbo is great...its not... true you get more power but the problems with turbos are insaine its all i see on these forums. ive seen friends with a 30 valve 2.8 get up to 500k miles with no rebuilds etc.
get a manual dude dont bother with anything else.

think about it this way with auto if you break down u have to wait for someone to come jump your car, while waiting you could get raped.....manaul bumpstart on your way, plus the mpg improves about 10 mpg give or take, and you get more power. think long and hard about your choice.

Turbos are pains in the asses once you get close to the 150k mark. Although they are fun to drive, if you're not ready to do the work on your own, you're better off sticking with an NA engine.
Fwiw, I had my 1.8t for over 5 years and did only normal maintenance. Would still be driving if it weren't for that f350.
If you care about interior niceties the 2.8 is the better choice as it was the higher trim so it has real leather and power seats, some have Bose as well.

As long as you keep up proper maintenance the 1.8t's will easily go 250k+.
You make turbo cars seem like they're an absolute nightmare when they're really not.
Also you will not gain NEARLY 10mpg from manual compared to automatic, maybe 5mpg if you're lucky, more like 2-4mpg.
