OK, so I started a new job recently and am saving up to get a new car and I have really come down to wanting to pick up an A4. Issue is I have never been around Audi's or anything so I'm not sure what to look for.

I have a budget of about 5-6k. I'm looking for a B5 because I like the body style more.

What I am trying to find out is waht I should be looking for in the car.

Is there a certain year range that I should be looking for?

How are they on mileage, I know that can depend on how the car was treated and all but roughly how many miles will the car run for?

Is there anything maintenance wise I should check for that often go wrong, head gasket, timing belt, ect?

Any other tips or information that could be provided would be awesome.

In case you miss it in the newbie guide, pre-facelift is 1996-1999.0 and facelift is 1999.5+

Facelifted versions have fog lights already, nicer headlights, and extra little features.
