Smile What's the best 1.8T engine?

I am going to slam a 1.8T in my A4 sometime later... But I'm going to start collecting all the parts now... I just now learned there's a bunch of 1.8T engine codes and stuff but the only one I see people using is the AEB. What's the differences in the 1.8's and which one is best for modding... I'm looking to swap out my 2.8 12V when it's dead and put a 1.8 in there.. I'm not gonna ask how to do the swap because I already got some idea on how to do it...

For the 1.8 I'm getting I only plan to get a k04 turbo for it and whatever else goes with the k04 ... I've never touched a turbo before and I want to finally own a turbod car... I know I'm going to have to tune it but I'm going to bring it to 034 Motorsports since I live like 20 mins from them... Any tips advice or constructive criticism would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your time.

You would most likely be better off selling the V6 model and buying a 1.8t instead. I don't know what is all necessary for a 1.8t swap but harness, ECU, all the sensors and wiring, also if you go with drive by wire pedals, throttle body, and so much other stuff. Also you will be saving so much more money buying the car to start with instead of what you are trying to do.

ive also thought about this... but i just feel like me and my A4 has been through so much... ive put so much time and money on her already (maintenance, upgrades, etc) and i just want to swap the 1.8t in... but if everyone thinks its absolutely the best choice to sell it and get the 1.8t then i guess thats the route im going to take... :P

It would be way more cost effective to sell your car and buy a 1.8t unless you can get a complete AEB donor car for almost nothing, and you can do all the work for the swap yourself. AEB would be the easiest swap into your car because the 12v V6 is also drive-by-cable.

I know the feeling of being attached to your car, but there are so many advantages besides the motor to upgrading to a facelift 1.8T that you'll thank yourself later. I used to have the exact same car as you, same color and everything. Sold it for my current avant and never looked back.

selling your car and looking for a facelift 1.8t is idle...

but im pretty sure the AEB head ( better flowing head)
with the AWP block ( forged stock internals)
then slap turbo on.. tune and go

it sounds easy but its not.

getting a 1.8t is what i would suggest. try to get one with a AEB engine becuase it will be easier to find a AWP block then to try to find a AEB head!

Agreeing with all the guys here. If you plan on putting in a motor that came stock to the b5 just buy one. I recommend trying to find a 99.5 with a AEB and facelift front end. If not a 2000 or 2001 is a solid motor. the AEB would be easier to swap like CCa4 said because of the DBC vs the DBW.

i wish i still had my 99.5 QTM... first owner neglected it beyond repair. i dumped too much money into that thing.. if i only had the pay checks i do now back then i would have kept it.. 99.5 is THE car to get if you can find one.

so based off of what everyone is saying... the 99.5 1.8T is the best year to get? also what is a DBC or a DBW? how do i know if my car has this?

DBC- DRIVE BY CABLE
DBW- DRIVE BY WIRE

all you have to do is look at the throttle body is it electronic? (dbw) or is it operated by a cable ( dbc)
