Please help. White smoke out of exhaust when driving slow, parking, reverse etc.

Allot of oil on top of the spark plugs. changed the tapped cover gasket.
Replaced Thermo intake breather valve because this was clogged up with old oil build up.

The car stopped smoking for about a week but started to smoke again. Could somebody please help

 

Is it white or gray/blue?

White smoke is generally caused by water. As your car is the 1.8 it could either be a leaking seal in your turbo or a head gasket..

Blue smoke is caused by oil which could be caused by the same things as well as several other seals that could be leaking.

Are you losing coolant? Or oil?

 

Thank for the reply. I am not losing any oil or coolant. that is why I cannot understand the smoke. I took the car to the audi workshop today they said that the breather pipe from the intake manifold and the breather going to the turbo is broken going to fix that and see if that sort out the problem

 

Let us know if that solves it.. Does it start out smoking and then go away.. Start out fine ant then start smoking once it warns up.. Or smoke all the time?

 

It smokes when its warmed up only when I drive slow. like with the pull away, parking, reverse and when I parked at a uphill it smokes allot. Does not smoke all the time.

mines same - it produces a lot of condensation in the exhaust, i thought head gasket had gone, if i park and leave the car to idle, there is a puddle of water behind the exhaust.i stopped worrying about it

if you suspect head gasket, with the car cold, remove the coolant resevoir cap. look atthe surface ofthe coolant for any oil, start the car and look for bubbles and exhaust smoke.

 

That's what I would expect if it was turbo related.. A head gasket would normally smoke all the time

 

Are you sure its not condensation? If you're not loosing fluids I highly doubt its burning anything.

I've noticed that my 3.2 has more condensation than other cars. I'll be stopped at a light and notice puffs of it in my mirror. But I know that it isn't smoke since it doesn't smell like anything vaporized and it is not quite thick enough. I was concerned when I first got the car, but now I just chalk it up to condensation since all my fluids levels are fine.

 

I noticed on my 1.8t when I had a similar problem that I was losing a small amount of oil hardly noticeable but what worked for me in the white smoke situation was replacing a lot of the worn old hoses as one of the old ones was slightly blocked and causing sort of a back up.
