Default Why do German cars "tick"

So i was just wondering, why do german cars tick while idling? They all, including my b5, sound like they need the valves adjusted, even the new cars sound like that.

The valves and injectors on the 1.8t are loud, its just the way it is. Think they rather just make quiter cabins than engines

odd, i noticed this too. Even with my old '97 benz c230 it made the same ticking, almost as if it were a diesel. My mothers older benz's did it also

Alot of German cars do this, so i have herd. I was talking to a friend that sells BMW's and he says even the brand new fresh ladies that come in tick. As soon as you open up the hood it becomes more noticable. I guess its just the way there made. werd.

I don't get it....I can't recall any "ticking" sound. Do you mean that faint kind of vibration/growl sound...? I think I know the sound, but couldn't imagine it being described as a tick...
