Default Will switchblade remote without key half work by itself?

So I bought a used B5, dealership told me it was a 2001.5, and that it has the immobilizer. Only came with two valet keys and one plastic emergency key. I don't need the entire switchblade right now I just want the remote. If I have just the remote half and not the key part will it still work. A locksmith told me no, but it makes no sense considering all the remote electronic are in teh remote half. Could someone with a similar vehicle separate their remote in two halves and try their buttons and tell me if it works or not. And if you think I will be able to program the remote half with the two valet keys? Thanks!!!

The half with the key and the other half with the remote are two separate parts and should both work independently.

It does work, but I'm not sure if you'll be able to program it without the key half first. If I remember right, you have to put the valet key in the starter switch and turn it on but not started, and the key part for the remote you're programming in the door and turn it to the left til the windows roll down and push unlock button til lights flash (or something like that) so it may not work purely for not being able to use the key half necessary to program it.

However, I would give a shot to using one valet key in the starter switch, the other in the door for that part, and still pushing the button sequence on the fob, that could work, I see no reason for the fob to have to be attached to the key that is in the door to program it.

^^ That is exactly my thoughts as well. I mean shouldn't having two valet keys work the same as one valet with the one connected to the remote. I mean how would the remote know any difference? We will see. I just didn't wanna fork over the 290 at the stealership so I am just getting the remote half for now. I know it's ghetto but I just want keyless entry since I keep forgetting to manually lock my doors. I will let you know how it works out, Thanks!!!
