Default is it worth it

found this a4 on CL. says the tranny Gears slip and leaks fluid. And an odd sound..... how much would a new tranny run?

I saw a white B5 for the first time ever today and it looked just like that one

If you're up for a tranny swap and you buy from ECS Tuning, it will run you $853.15 with free shipping if I'm not mistaken

Why not hold out for a different car w/manual trans? Anyways... Ebay or check the classifieds or local junk yard. Probably around $500-$600 not including shipping.

On most cars it's not worth it but I think Audi already has the hole cut in the firewall for the clutch pedal regardless of tranny. If you want an auto this time around at least hold out for a Tip car.

You'd need an ecu from a non-auto AEB engine along with the main harness. Not sure how to tap into hydraulics for the clutch... Then you'd need shift linkage, stick shift surround cover, clutch pedal/master, the starter may be different.... Might as well be doing the clutch while you're in there with new axle gaskets and fluid. A couple other things...

So

Not really worth it if you're able to hold out for a similar deal on a car that already comes with a manual trans.

The cranks aren't the same either. There is a guy on audizine that did his swap from start to finish for about $1800 and he did a write-up that was pretty good. I'll poke around and see if I can find it again.

Man, look for A4s around LA, there's a pretty good selection of them.

I got one for a good price, you can haggle and get a lower price, don't settle for the asking price on these cars. People will come down.

I'm actually looking for a second A4 myself. The first one I'm going to keep stock as it's just perfect, great everyday driver. The second, I'm going to find one that needs some work and will tweak the hell out of it. Should be more fun than getting an S4 i think.
