WOW I am getting screwed right now
My car hit 80,000 miles about 2 weeks ago and I took it in to a reputable shop to get the timing belt changed. Well I get the car back and the damn tensioner breaks, so I have to get it towed back to their shop where (after 2 days) they inform me that it is their fault and they are going to fix it. Well of course the valves got bent and the motor now needs a lot of work. They are paying for it as they should, but I just called today and they say they're right in the middle of a head rebuild on my car to replace the valves and such. I went all last week without a car, all weekend, and now they're telling me that my car MIGHT be ready by NEXT week! This is total bullshit and I want you to tell me what I should do. I have things I want to do with this car as far as mods go, and I think this shop should be willing to install whatever the hell I feel like, free of charge. I didn't work this weekend because I didn't have a car, and now I won't be able to next weekend either. Thoughts or opinions?

Just deal with it, when you get it back it's gonna have a lot more new engine parts than you paid for. Yeah it sucks you've gotta miss work, but they could have said, "hey too bad, not our problem"
then you would ACTUALLY be 'getting screwed right now'

Thats the breaks man, I would guess they don't have all the parts to fix their F up on hand.Like Jibberific said they could've said s*** happens and gougedyou forthat too. I feel for you tho, just think about how great it'll berunning when you get it back.
I think it is amazing that they are fixing it. Did you have them put a new tensioner on, or was it their fault when they put it on that caused the break?
Because if they didnt put the new tensioner on, I gotta say, I wouldnt cover it.

Since they have admitted it is their actions (or inactions) which have left you without a car, it would make sense that they would pay for a rental for you. However, in real life I wouldn't push it at this point, its kinda late in the game. It does suck, but new head is good. You not being able to put new mods on is just an inconvenience, like me not having money to pay for mods
Get a friend to drive you to work.

Putting together an A4 cylinder head definately isn't the most fun thing either, it takes a long damn time. Especially when they don't have the audi specific tool to re-build it.

You definitely should have talked about a rental when this happened. If I were you, I would bring this up to them, the fact that you're missing work and losing money because of them. If they're any good, they'll be happy to provide one. If you can't get one and don't want to get a lawyer involved at this point (i wouldn't) I would just rent a car for the weekend.. if the money I make minus the cost of the rental was of any significance.
